Alex Ehlers, MFTC
Alex (she/her) is a therapist who works with individuals and couples who feel stuck, disconnected, or unsure of how to move forward—whether that's in their relationships, their sense of self, or the life they're building. Many of the people Alex works with are navigating big transitions, struggling with anxiety or depression, questioning their identity or purpose, or feeling like they've lost touch with who they are or what they need.
In her work with couples, Alex supports partners at every stage—from dating or engaged couples wanting to build a strong foundation, to new parents navigating the overwhelming shift to family life, to long-term partners looking to rekindle connection, deepen intimacy, or finally understand the fights that keep repeating. She brings a humorous, relatable, and compassionate presence to her work, creating a warm and welcoming space where clients feel both heard and advocated for.
Alex is an attachment-based and systemic therapist who views clients within the broader context of their relationships, identities, and lived experiences. She helps people explore how early relational dynamics shape current patterns and emotions, so they can make sense of their reactions and move toward greater self-understanding and compassion. Her work is grounded in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), an evidence-based, attachment-based approach that helps people uncover and express the deeper emotions underneath conflict and disconnection, and learn how to create more secure, responsive, and loving connections.
Alex is an LGBTQIA+ affirming therapist who welcomes and honors clients of all races, gender expressions, sexual identities, and relationship structures. She is committed to creating an inclusive, culturally sensitive, and nonjudgmental space where all people feel seen and respected. She has experience supporting clients with relationship challenges, life transitions, depression, anxiety, self-esteem struggles, and questions of identity, voice, and purpose.
She holds a Master of Arts in Couples and Family Therapy from the University of Colorado Denver. Alex has completed Level 1 of Gottman Method Couples Therapy and is currently working toward certification in Emotionally Focused Therapy. Before becoming a therapist, Alex studied child development and worked extensively in childcare—experiences that sparked her interest in supporting family systems by beginning with the couple at the center. She also contributed to research focused on shame and self-acceptance, which now deeply informs her therapeutic lens as she helps clients approach shame-based parts with greater understanding and self-compassion.
Outside of the therapy room, Alex enjoys traveling, exploring new restaurants and coffee shops, watercolor painting, reading, and spending time with her partner and their cat, Beau.
