J. Matthews, Intern Therapist

J. (they/them) is a master’s level intern who works with individuals and couples, using Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and an attachment-based approach to help clients build stronger relationships, deepen emotional understanding, and support overall well-being. Their style is warm, collaborative, and grounded in the belief that healing happens through connection.

J. incorporates trauma-informed care, mindfulness, and a holistic perspective, while also considering the broader social and cultural factors that shape our experiences. Their training includes EFT, mindfulness-based practices, and indigenous healing traditions, which they draw on to help clients better understand their emotions, improve communication, and create meaningful change in their relationships.

As a queer, non-binary, and biracial person, J. brings personal insight into identity, relationships, and belonging, and has a particular interest in supporting clients who are navigating life transitions, personal growth, or non-traditional relationship structures. They are experienced in creating a welcoming, affirming space for people of all backgrounds.

In therapy, J. is committed to meeting you where you are — with curiosity, respect, and without judgment. They work to create a space that is inclusive, culturally sensitive, sex-positive, and kink-aware, welcoming clients from all walks of life, including LGBTQIA+, Black, Indigenous, and all people of color.

Before beginning clinical training, J. spent over eight years working in crisis response, group facilitation, conflict resolution, and coaching, gaining experience in helping people through challenging and transformative moments.

Outside the therapy room, J. is always learning and doing their own self-work, and they love spending time with family and friends, listening and creating music, and being outdoors. You can find them cozied up under a blanket reading a book, writing songs in their living room, or sipping coffee at a local roaster.

J. sees clients in-person in the Denver office and via Telehealth using a HIPAA compliant video conferencing platform. They have availability Wednesday - Friday. Their session rates are $80/50 minutes and $120/75 minutes.
