Lizzie Stevenson, LMFT
Lizzie (she/her) is a therapist who works with couples, individuals, and families who feel stuck in painful relational patterns that leave them feeling disconnected, misunderstood, emotionally alone, or exhausted from the same fight over and over. Many of the people she works with deeply love their partners and families, but find themselves caught in cycles of criticism, withdrawal, defensiveness, anxiety, or emotional distance that make it hard to feel close, safe, or truly understood.
In her couples therapy work, Lizzie uses an attachment-based and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) approach to help couples slow down reactive cycles and better understand the deeper emotions and unmet attachment needs underneath them. She works collaboratively with clients to help them move out of patterns of protection and disconnection and toward greater emotional safety, responsiveness, and secure connection. Her approach is grounded in the belief that our reactions make sense in the context of our relationships and life experiences — and that meaningful change happens when people feel emotionally seen, understood, and supported in new ways. She also provides Discernment Counseling for couples who feel uncertain about the future of their relationship, offering a supportive space to explore their options with clarity and intention before deciding how they want to move forward.
Lizzie has extensive experience supporting couples navigating conflict, affair recovery, trust ruptures, emotional disconnection, divorce transitions, co-parenting stress, blended family dynamics, anxiety, trauma, depression, and life transitions. She especially enjoys helping couples recognize the negative cycles that keep them stuck and create new patterns of connection that feel safer, softer, and more emotionally honest. Her style is warm, attuned, thoughtful, and direct. Clients often appreciate her ability to hold emotional complexity while helping conversations feel more grounded, clear, and productive. She believes therapy should not only provide insight, but should help people experience real shifts in how they connect with themselves and the people they love.
Lizzie earned her Master of Science in Marriage and Family Therapy and brings more than 20 years of clinical experience across private practice, community mental health, mentorship supervision, teaching, and program development. Her work is rooted in attachment theory, family systems, trauma-informed care, and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), a research supported approach. She is passionate about helping clients create more secure, emotionally responsive relationships and supporting lasting relational change.
Outside of the therapy room, Lizzie enjoys spending time with her beautiful and intelligent daughter, caring for her senior dog, staying connected with her large family of eight siblings, playing pickleball, and continuing to deepen her learning and growth within the field of attachment, relationships, and emotional healing.
