Brittany Steckel, LMFT, LPC
Brittany Steckel (she/her/hers) is a therapist who works with couples, families and individuals struggling with painful conflict patterns, feeling stuck or disconnected, and who may feel overwhelmed by the weight of life’s demands. Many of the people she works with feel exhausted by having the same arguments time and again, despite caring deeply about their relationships and wanting things to be different.
Brittany helps clients understand themselves and one another more deeply by clarifying and shifting emotional and relationship patterns. These relational patterns shape how people reach out for connection, protect themselves when feeling vulnerable, and feel loved by others. She uses attachment theory and strengths-based approaches to honor how people have been shaped by their experiences and draw on their strengths to grow in their relationships. This approach values both partners’ perspectives and backgrounds equally and helps clients shift long-held patterns of relationships to find closeness through deeper and clearer connection.
Brittany specializes in working with couples and supports clients navigating anxiety, neurodivergence—including ADHD and autism—and life transitions, particularly when these experiences affect their closest relationships. She also helps couples navigate significant transitions, such as starting a family or caring for aging parents. Brittany offers Discernment Counseling to couples who are uncertain about the future of their relationship, and helps both partners gain greater clarity and confidence about their next steps.
Brittany is especially passionate about working with neurodiverse couples, LGBTQIA+ communities, and people in non-traditional relationship structures (poly and ethically non-monogamous relationships). She warmly welcomes clients of all backgrounds and identities. Starting in the first session, Brittany will inquire about culture, identity and lived experiences that have shaped who you are as a person. She will honor those experiences and influences, creating space for a richer and more authentic conversation throughout the counseling process
She earned her Master’s degree in Clinical Counseling from Denver Seminary, a certificate in Marriage and Family Therapy from the Denver Family Institute, and is an ICEEFT Certified Emotionally Focused Couples Therapist. Her clinical approach is centered around using Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), a research-supported, attachment-based approach. EFT helps people recognize and disrupt the negative emotional and relational cycles that create distance between partners and instead helps establish secure, responsive ways of relating to one another. This therapy model helps break patterns that may have been ingrained for years through insight, mindfulness, and directed experiences in the therapy room.
Brittany is married to a lovely man who has ADHD, and her personal experience within a neurodiverse relationship deepens her understanding of the day-to-day realities neurodiverse couples may face. This helps her connect with neurodiverse couples and individuals in an authentic and compassionate way.
Outside of the therapy room, Brittany enjoys spending time outdoors in the mountains, playing board games with friends, and visiting small local coffee shops and roasters .
